THE WILDLIFE AT CROCKWOOD FARM

OUR PHEASANTS

We have a resident family of pheasants, here at Crockwood Farm; one very beautifully coloured male called Phil and 5 brown females.

They are usually to be found on the lawn between the Farmhouse and Log Cabin, particularly at breakfast time, but they often wander over to the lawns in front of Foxdown and Thistledown, to look for seed that may have fallen from the bird feeders.

Their next appearance is likely to be mid-afternoon when they enjoy a leisurely stroll around the grounds!

Being part of the natural wildlife, they are nervous creatures, so we respectfully ask that, if you have brought your dog with you, to put him or her on a lead before you leave your cottage, so that the pheasants are not chased or distressed in any way.

THE SQUIRRELS

Similarly, you are sure to spot Cyril the Squirrel who is a rather cheeky chappy and a clever boy at that! You can often see him, either foraging on the ground beneath the bird feeders, or shimmying up the poles to tip the feeders upside down. He will then either tip out the seed onto the ground, or put his head inside the container and eat what’s there! He’s also rather partial to fat balls …

Sometimes Cyril brings his friends … so far we have seen 4 squirrels at any one time.

THE BIRDS

We attract a fine range of wild birds including blue tits, nuthatches and woodpeckers and hope you enjoy watching them from the comfort of your cottage.

AND THE REST

If you are up early you may even see deer and rabbits in the grounds. It has been known!

Taken through a glass window, so not very clear!
